Canterbury Conservation Management Strategy review
Feedback closes: 31 July 2008
Are you a nature lover, outdoor enthusiast, tramper, hunter, fisher,
landowner, farmer, tour guide or someone generally interested in conservation
and the environment?
Then we want your help to develop the direction of the Canterbury
Conservancy’s conservation work in the next ten years.
Canterbury Conservancy’s current Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) is
nearing the end of its 10-year time span and is due for review by June
2010.

Ben Ohau - is this a special
place
to you? Let us know by submitting on
the draft Canterbury CMS
What's important to you?
Over the next ten years, the new CMS will direct significant conservation
effort to special places in the conservancy, chosen for their significant
ecological, historic, recreation, community or cultural values.
What is most important to you? Please tell us what you think
either by filling out the online feedback form,
or requesting a hard copy from the contacts below.
Who can make contributions?
Anyone! We want to hear from as many people as possible who have an interest
in how DOC manages public conservation land in Canterbury
before we produce the draft CMS. After all, we are managing
conservation for all New Zealanders!
What’s the review process?
- Informal community consultation has already started and
comments/suggestions are now invited
- Comments are considered and public workshops and meetings held
- The draft CMS is prepared
- Draft CMS is publicly notified, formal community consultation and written
submissions invited - hearings for submitters who wish to be heard
- Draft CMS revised by DOC to take account of submissions
- CMS is considered by Canterbury Aoraki Conservation Board
- NZ Conservation Authority (NZCA) consideration and referral to Minister of
Conservation for comment before final approval by NZCA.
